First off, my mother in law actually saw me on television because I was standing in one of the long lines during the transit strike that I’ve been complaining about.  I knew the camara man would zero in on me because I looked royally pissed.  But now, tweets for the week!  And a photo!

Memorizing Technique and a week of tweets

Memorizing music at a furious rate for the next three days!  I can DO this!    Memorizing a lot of music in a short period of time – story of  a singer’s life, right?  I have a great memorizing technique that I was told about just after I was cast in my first operatic role (Suor Angelica).  This opera (one-act) is about 55 minutes long – with Sister Angelica singing almost the entire time.  Could I get the music memorized in time?   Most people, myself included would start at the beginning (a very good place to start – couldn’t resist) and work my way forward through the song.  What ends up happening is that the front would be memorized but would get foggy as you moved towards the back.  The memorizing technique that my friend told me about involves starting from the last measure on the last page and working your way towards the first page – working backwards.  For example, you start at the last measure, then you would memorize the second to the last  measure + the last measure, then the third to last measure + second to last measure + last measure, and so on.  You slowly work your way backwards through the piece and not adding a measure until the measures behind it were memorized.  I swear it  decreased the amount of time it took to memorize.  Give it a try on your next song – it works!  Now I have to run (and memorize) so here is my week of tweets:

Blogging from the Train – like a really long Tweet, and a Tuesday Top 10

Hey everyone! I’ve just finished the last rehearsal before the final day-of-the-concert-rehearsal on Thursday and I have to say that I am pleased. First off, it’s the first concert that I’m singing that David Hayes is conducting us and it’s great – I feel extremely safe under his watch. It’s going to be really good as long as too much adrenaline doesn’t kick in to make you sing sharp. See my post before this one for details. Secondly, the music is challenging!

In other news – allergies are epic right now and I’m not sure why. Thus a Top 10 Tuesday for you – Top 10 Reasons Why You Want To End Your Life Because Your Allergies are So Bad:

1. You sound like you smoke 10 packs a day

2. You can sing Baritone even when you’re a soprano

3. You call your mom and she thinks it’s your husband calling

4. The mounds and mounds of mucus

5. You spend half your grocery budget on tissue

6. Save on home repairs – just sneeze on the wall

7. Your nostrils are like your kidneys – you really only need one side anyway

8. Your nose is so stuffed that you almost suffocate while brushing your teeth

9. Your Neti Pot wants overtime pay

10. Did I mention mucus?
