Finding a voice in the singing business

Paradyme Shift

I had been frustrated with the Blackberry for a few months now.  It’s a good phone, it really is, but there are problems with it.  The rollerball  had been giving me problems off and on for a while and I was already unhappy about the quality of the internet exploring experience.  The fault was mine.  I got a phone that was really meant as a business phone, more as a “toy” as it were.  So, when my upgrade came through for a new phone, the Droid beckoned.  After some thinking, I decided that I needed a little change in my life and decided to go with it.  I’m eagerly awaiting my  that should arrive tomorrow in the arms of FedEx.  I’ll keep you posted.  Blackberry, there is a new kid in town.   If you notice something in your life that is not working – just make the change instead of dealing with the frustration.  So liberating!

In other news, I’m coming off of three days with consecutive 9+ hours-of-sleep nights (sigh).  How I will miss those.  I’m also coming off of a three-day marathon of some unbelievably bad eating, which I won’t miss.  Back to the schedule tomorrow!

Most of the weekend (besides the eating, drinking and sleeping), I did manage to do a lot of studying for Carousel.  I’m in the throws of line memorization at the moment, for which the Nano is coming in handy.  Little did I know that there was a voice memo feature where I can record each scene as a separate “podcast” that’s stored in my playlist. I was reminded to the time back in High School when the only way I could think to memorize lines was the record the other parts on a tape recorder with a pause where my line was supposed to be and then play it back for myself.  My goal is to be fully off-book by New Year’s – I finished Act I yesterday!  Keep it rolling.

Friday Fermata – Merry Christmas!

Christmas has, and always will be, my favorite holiday of the year.  I have such fond memories of Christmas with parents that were both very enthusiastic about it!  I hope you have fond memories as well.  And, if you don’t, here’s to creating new and happy memories of your own.  Here’s to a great Christmas and New Year!

Life – Scripted

Julie, where do I begin?  People think that you are simple-minded but this just isn’t the case.  You are “deeper than a well” for sure.  I can’t wait to get to know you better.  You are multi-layered, multi-faceted and I can’t wait to figure you out.  I hope to do you justice, I really do.  Last night, I found myself pulling out the many pages of notes and tools that I received from the Walnut Street Theatre classes I’ve taken in regards to studying character, creating backstory and finding my triggers.  Julie has a lot of those, for sure.  A lot.  I can’t wait to learn.  To be challenged and to get better.  I’m made for this and I hope it will show.

Laviator Club Member

If you are by any chance an aviation geek like I am, you may or may not yet know about the Laviator Club, started by Heather Poole and carried on my Airboy.  Taken from the original theme of the Mile High Club (you know what I mean and I think that you do), the Laviator club, started as one post on Heather’s website and then exploded into some crazy aviator thing where people from all over the world starte.d submitting.  Submitting what, you might ask?   To be a laviator (cross between aviator and lavatory), you simply have to take your picture in an airplane bathroom in flight and email it to Heather who hosts a special location on her website and does occasional posts on her main page.  Airboy is also doing this at his site.  It’s fascinating to sift through the pictures.

I had a huge string of business trips a year ago, but before the Laviator Club really took off, so I missed my opportunity to submit.  I’m a ham so you know that I would have wanted to.  So, patiently I waited until a business trip came up where I could submit – and I finally got to last week on a trip out to California.  I’m not up on her site yet but hope to be included in the club soon!

Behold!

Friday Fermata – Whataburger

Sometimes, in the middle of the very disciplined eating and exercising that I’ve been doing, I have to just realize that some days (not the majority) are going to NOT be as disciplined.  As to the fitness challenge, I only have, realistically, about 8 more pounds to go and then it’s all about maintaining and building some more muscle mass.  So, sometimes, it’s OK to not be a disciplined and to allow yourself the occasional splurge.  It’s still not good for you, and you should not make a habit of it, BUT every once in a while, it’s OK.

I just about lost it when my mom, who went on a recent trip to Texas, emailed these pictures to me:

….which, if you are from Texas, you know exactly what this is.  It’s a burger from Whataburger.  Just about the best hamburger south of, well….south of Canada if you must know.  It’s like the best EVER and I haven’t had one since 1994.  What makes it magical is the combination of mustard and finally diced onion.  On a business trip two years ago to Phoenix, I almost detoured on my way to the airport when I saw a Whataburger sign off of the freeway.  The only thing keeping me from actually going was that I had to make my flight.

….so to receive this in the middle of my Food/Fitness challenge is pure mocking.

Thanks, mom!

Pasadena was good to me

If you hadn’t guessed from my twitter feed, I had been away in California this past week on a business trip.  I had 4 celebrity sightings, lots of great food and an espresso dessert that kept me up until 4AM and, oh yes, the business trip – which was awesome.  The only downside was missing my husband terribly.  The highlight of the trip was getting to see a Laker’s Game from Box seats!  Two of the celebrity sightings were here (Jack Black and Julia Dreyfus).  Later, we ran in to Taboo at a taco joint and Joe Mantegne at LAX.

Lakers!

Oh, and the cupcakes from Dots Cupcakes, which were fabulous!

….and the weather
